HashiCorp Vault Engineer (Part-Time)
Our client is seeking a HashiCorp Vault Engineer with strong Terraform skills to support a major corporate divestiture. This role focuses on migrating Vault from the parent organization, designing and implementing secure policies, and building the automation needed to stand up and operate the platform independently. You’ll also provide ongoing support as the new environment goes live.

- Location: Remote
- 20 hrs/week (evenings/weekends OK) | Potential ramp to 40 hrs/week
- Compensation: This job is expected to pay about $85-95/hr W2 plus benefits
What You’ll Do:
- Secrets Management: Experience in using Vault to centralize and manage static and dynamic secrets (passwords, API keys, certificates).
- Vault Administration & Operation: Installation, configuration, deployment, troubleshooting, and ongoing administration of Vault instances, including production setups.
- Policy and Access Control: Experience with defining and managing access control through Vault policies (ACLs) and role-based access controls (RBAC).
- Authentication Methods: Knowledge of configuring various authentication methods (e.g., Active Directory, LDAP, Kubernetes, AWS/Azure IAM).
- Vault Engines: Hands-on work with different secret engines (e.g., Key-Value (KV), PKI, Databases, AWS).
- Audit Logging & Monitoring: Configuring and monitoring Vault audit devices and metric collection for compliance and security purposes.
- HashiCorp Vault Enterprise: Experience with enterprise features like replication, performance standbys, and advanced monitoring, if applicable.
- Automation: Building automated workflows and processes around Vault using scripting (Python, Bash, Go) and automation tools.

- HashiCorp Vault is typically part of a larger infrastructure, so demonstrating integration with other tools is crucial:
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Deep knowledge of Terraform for deploying and managing Vault infrastructure and configuration (policies, roles, mounts).
- CI/CD Technologies: Integrating Vault into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI for secure secret injection.
- Cloud Platforms: Experience deploying and operating Vault on cloud providers such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
- Containerization & Orchestration: Using Vault with Docker and Kubernetes (e.g., for managing Kubernetes secrets or using the Vault agent injector).
- Configuration Management: Experience with Ansible or Chef for post-deployment configuration or application integration
- Networking and Security Fundamentals: Understanding of networking, firewalls, load balancers, and public key infrastructure (PKI).
