Our client is seeking a senior leader to oversee enterprise-wide risk management programs across a high-volume retail environment. This is an opportunity to make a direct impact in safeguarding operations, ensuring compliance, and managing risk for an organization with significant customer and employee foot traffic. You will partner closely with leadership, legal, and operations to minimize liabilities, manage claims effectively, and promote a proactive culture of safety and accountability.

 

  • Location: Central California area
  • Compensation: This job is expected to pay a base salary of about $150-160k plus relocation package and generous bonus & benefits
  • No Visa Sponsorship Available for this role

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Direct Workers’ Compensation and General Liability programs, ensuring effective claims management, compliance, and cost control
  • Oversee claims, litigation, and insurance coverage in collaboration with counsel, carriers, and brokers
  • Partner with operations, EH&S, and labor/benefits teams to address risks in a unionized, high-traffic retail environment
  • Deliver executive-level reporting on liability trends, exposure, and financial impact, recommending corrective actions
  • Provide leadership and development to senior-level direct reports, with dotted-line collaboration to peer leaders

 

What Gets You the Job: 

  • 12+ years of progressive risk management experience with focus on Workers’ Compensation and General Liability
  • Director-level (or higher) leadership experience in large, multi-unit retail environments with heavy customer and employee foot traffic
  • Proven track record managing claims, litigation strategy, insurance programs, and union-related cases
  • Strong understanding of compliance, OSHA, and retail safety codes
  • Proactive, strategic thinker with excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills
