Senior Cloud Database Platform Engineer (SQL Server)
Fully Remote | EST Hours | Salary up to $145K + Excellent Benefits
We’re looking for a seasoned Cloud Database Platform Engineer to own and evolve highly available, secure, and performant SQL Server environments across Azure and other major clouds. This is a hands-on role with real ownership—from architecture standards through day-to-day operations—supporting mission-critical workloads at scale.
You’ll work remotely while collaborating during EST business hours, helping shape a modern, secure data platform where reliability, automation, and performance matter.
What You’ll Do

Design and run highly available SQL Server platforms across Azure (SQL DB, MI, IaaS) and multi-cloud environments, including hybrid setups.

Own performance at scale: tuning queries, indexing strategies, concurrency, storage I/O, and capacity planning.

Lead HA/DR strategies including Always On Availability Groups, backup/recovery, RPO/RTO, and regular DR testing.

Drive platform security using least-privilege access, encryption, masking, auditing, and enterprise data protection standards.

Build and standardize IaC and DB DevOps workflows (Terraform/Bicep, CI/CD, schema deployment).

Implement monitoring and alerting using Azure Monitor, Query Store, and diagnostics to meet SLOs/SLIs.

Participate in on-call support for critical systems and lead incident response when needed.

Mentor DBAs and data engineers; provide clear guidance, reviews, and technical leadership.

Translate business needs into platform roadmaps and communicate risks, costs, and capacity clearly to stakeholders.
What You Bring
-
10+ years working with SQL Server in cloud and hybrid environments, including deep HA/DR and performance expertise.

Hands-on experience with Azure

Strong command of T-SQL, indexing, execution plans, and storage fundamentals.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code and automated database deployments.

Solid understanding of security, encryption, auditing, and regulated production environments.

Ability to lead technically, mentor others, and communicate clearly with both engineers and leaders.

Comfortable owning production systems end to end, from design through operations.
