Our non-profit client in the DTLA area is currently seeking a Senior Accountant to join their organization on a direct hire basis. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of accounting experience and a CPA license. Prior non-profit experience is a plus, as well.


Applicants must live in or in a commutable distance to the Downtown Los Angeles area.


The Senior Accountant plays a key role in the organization. The Senior Accountant will have a thorough knowledge of GAAP for nonprofit organizations and will train and advise organization on financial accounting matters. The Senior Accountant will develop improved tools, processes and approaches to ensure that work is done in the most effective and efficient manner.


  • Prepare bank entries and journal entries to support a cluster of sites including, but not limited to, weekly site cash deposits, EFT receipts and revenue accruals
  • Prepare invoices for accounts receivable, and see-through collection
  • Guarantee timely and accurate month-end close by meeting daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
  • Reconcile all items on the balance sheet on a monthly basis
  • Review transaction reports and financial statements and discuss with accounting team members and finance
  • Assist the Compliance team in reviewing the classification and treatment of revenues and expenses related to special programs, to ensure all grant funds are utilized
  • Help sites prepare for audit visits, ensuring appropriate controls are in place
  • Provide answers and support to site and business managers so they can make informed site decisions 
  • Build relationships with site and regional office staff
  • Work with sites to ensure compliance with department policies and procedures


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting or related field
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of general accounting experience
  • Experience in education, nonprofits, or government accounting is a plus
  • CPA is required
  • Solid foundation and knowledge of GAAP
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent organization, prioritization, oral and written communication skills


  • Meet deadlines for closing the books
  • Number of journal entries made after the books are closed
  • Percent of checklist competed on-time each month
  • General Ledger Workbook updated each month
  • Issued solved as a percent of issues identified each month


  • Department of Justice background check to be completed prior to written offer
  • TB Clearance prior to start date
  • Valid California Driver’s License
